My customer has moved overseas. Can Baycorp collect accounts abroad?

Baycorp has offices in Australia and New Zealand and agreements with associations and collection agencies around the world to collect accounts overseas.

What information does Baycorp require to load an account?

As a minimum, we need a copy of your terms of trade, the debtor’s full name and last known physical or postal address. We may also request copies of contracts, invoices, statements or other documentation as proof of the debt plus information to identify your debtor such as their date of birth. The more information that you have about your customer and the overdue account, the more effective our recovery processes can be.

Is my customer’s credit file affected if I load an account with Baycorp?

Generally, yes. We send an initial demand letter advising your customer that your account has been referred to us for collection and the account be paid within 14 days or further action may be taken. If full payment has not been received within 14 days, unless otherwise agreed, we will default list the debtor with a credit reporting bureau.

How much does it cost to use Baycorp to collect my overdue accounts?

We charge a percentage commission on payments made towards the debt. If no money is collected there is no charge. Depending on the wording of your Terms and Conditions the commission charge may be added to the debt, effectively reducing your cost to zero.

The commission we charge is dependent on the debt values and profile, as well as the amount of business you have. To discuss your particular needs, please call our friendly customer service team on 0800 BAYCORP (0800 229 267).

Does Baycorp collect rental arrears for private properties?

All overdue accounts incurred through Tenancy Agreements need to be referred to the Tenancy Tribunal and issued with a Tenancy Order. Once a Tenancy order is obtained from the Tribunal, any landlord or property manager can refer this to us as an account for collection. For further information about Tenancy Tribunal Orders, please go to www.dbh.govt.nz/tenancy-index

My customer has disputed their account. What happens now?

We will contact you if a debtor disputes an account and request proof of debt. We do not continue with any collection actions until we have received the required proof and the dispute has been resolved.

Disputes may need to be resolved through the Disputes tribunal, or in more complex cases, through legal process. For further information about Disputes Tribunal, please go to www.justice.govt.nz/disputes

My credit terms and conditions allow any cost in collecting the account to be passed to the customer. Does Baycorp allow for recovering the costs of using a collection agency?

Providing your credit terms and conditions allow it, we automatically calculate the recovery fee based on the account balance to ensure you receive the principal amount back. You do not need to add any collections fees to your account when referring to Baycorp. We will need to review a copy of your terms and conditions to ensure that you are entitled to add recovery fees to the account.
